1984 George Orwell

At Marshall Montessori IB we read a lot of good books.  All well written and by authors I’ve never heard of.  The one book that stood out to me was a book called “1984” by George Orwell.  It is about how Orwell predicated what was going to happen in the future.  It’s about a dystopia and how everything was during that time.   The book was well written and it had a certain something that caught my attention.  It was about how this man named Winston and how he was against “Big Brother”.  Big Brother is the government in this book and everybody is supposed to go by what they say.  Winston was against Big Brother but he couldn’t speak his mind.  Everywhere he goes he’s being watched.  He ends up joining a group who is also against Big Brother, known as the brother.  He gets caught by the “Thought Police” and taken to Ministry of Love.  The Ministry of Love is where they tortured and punished Winston for trying to go against “Big Brother”.  In the end he truly realizes that he loved “Big Brother” even though he tried to hide it.  Marshall Montessori IB has a good idea of what they want the kids to read.  Everything they have given us to read has some meaning to it.  1984 was the best book so far at IB that I’ve read.
